A tall tree can give a holiday display height and depth beyond the outline of the house. It also introduces a different planning problem. The branches, access around the trunk and distance from the main viewing point all influence what kind of lighting is practical.
Start by deciding what you want the tree to contribute. A defined trunk, selected branches and a more extensive canopy treatment are different designs with different access requirements. The most elaborate option is not automatically the most suitable for the property.
Decide Where the Tree Will Be Seen
Look at the tree from the driveway, entrance and the rooms where you spend time in the evening. Notice whether the trunk is visible or hidden behind shrubs and whether other trees overlap the view. These observations help determine which parts of the tree would make the strongest visual contribution.
Consider the rest of the display as well. A tree can serve as the main focal point or support an already prominent roofline. Repeating a color choice connects the two elements, while too many competing accents can make the arrangement harder to read.
Separate the Design From the Access Method
A photograph of a lit tree does not establish how another tree can be reached safely. Height, branch structure, ground conditions and nearby obstacles need to be assessed for the actual property. Do not select climbing equipment or an installation method based only on the appearance you want.
Leave difficult access and any concerns about tree condition to appropriate professionals. Keep all work away from overhead electrical lines. If a desired treatment cannot be reached and removed safely, choose a smaller scope or a different feature rather than forcing the original idea.
Understand What Is Included in a Tree Wrap
Ask which part of the tree the proposal covers and how far the treatment extends. Trunk coverage and branch coverage should be discussed separately. The size and spacing of the lighting influence the appearance, but a generic formula cannot account for every tree’s shape.
